Corporate Identity Design Environments and Your Company Lobby
Posted by Valerie Hurst on Wed, Feb 10, 2010
The lobby of a company is a predominant design element of brand messaging and a reflection of corporate culture, as it is the first visible area that every visitor is greeted by, and it builds a first impression about the company from the moment they walk in. Companies spend money on advertising, print media, exhibit graphics, and networking, but does this corporate identity design extend to the company lobby to present standardized messaging?
Think about lobbies you have visited, and what they conveyed to you about the company while you waited for your appointment to arrive...
- Did the colors of the lobby welcome you?
- Was there comfortable seating and ample lighting available?
- Perhaps there was a LCD monitor that highlighted the company's history, or a video about recent successfully completed projects. If so, was it informative and worthwhile?
- Did the lobby design portray a clutter free reception area and an organized atmosphere?
- Was there a wall of customer testimonials and industry awards that helped you to learn more about the company?
- Did the aura of the lobby match the interior of the office?
Not only is it important to convey a comfortable environment for current and potential clients, vendors, and visitors; but the employee work atmosphere should be a consideration as well, as research shows that it does affect overall productivity and employee satisfaction.
Each company has a different branding strategy, and their lobby should realistically reflect their company brand messaging and corporate culture through the effective design of their lobby.
